UNDERSHERIFF KUEHHAS HONORED AT CEREMONIAL WALKOUT AFTER FOUR DECADES OF PUBLIC SERVICE

(YAPHANK, NY) - On Thursday, February 26, Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr. and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office held a ceremony and walkout honoring Undersheriff Steven Kuehhas, who is retiring after 40 years of public service. The event was attended by friends, family, and colleagues from throughout his career, including County Executive Ed Romaine, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina, and members of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, District Attorney’s Office, local legislators, and other law enforcement agencies.

“For nearly four decades, Undersheriff Steven Kuehhas has dedicated his life to public service and the residents of Suffolk County are better because of it,” said Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr. “Over the past decade, our Office has greatly benefited from his integrity, experience, and steady leadership while he has served as Undersheriff. While he will truly be missed, we are grateful for his service and wish him a happy, healthy, and well-deserved retirement.”

The son of a Suffolk County Correction Officer, Undersheriff Kuehhas began his career in law enforcement in 1986 when he joined the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office. He prosecuted numerous serious felony cases including violent assaults, robberies, rapes and vehicular manslaughters, in addition to public corruption. From 1996 to 2016, Kuehhas was assigned as the East End Bureau Chief prosecuting crimes within the five eastern towns and villages of Suffolk County where he worked closely with numerous state and local police agencies.

After a rewarding career as a prosecutor and Bureau Chief, Kuehhas left the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office to become Undersheriff in the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Vincent DeMarco in July 2016. His duties included oversight of operations for both the professional, Corrections and Deputy Sheriff personnel.
