72 SUFFOLK COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE CORRECTION OFFICER RECRUITS SWORN IN

(YAPHANK, NY) The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office held a swearing in ceremony for 72 new Correction Officer Recruits on Monday, August 31, 2026 at the Yaphank Correctional Facility. These new Correction Officer Recruits will begin a rigorous sixteen-week training program that includes instruction in direct supervision, de-escalation techniques, report writing, defensive tactics, firearms, and much more. The recruits will graduate this summer, joining a force consisting of more than 850 Suffolk County Correction Officers. 

The recruits in this Correction Officer Class are comprised of 62 males and 10 females. Eight recruits have military or prior law enforcement experience including with the NYPD and NYCDOC. 

“We welcome this class of 72 to the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office and look forward to seeing them grow as they are trained. A correction officer is a key position in upholding the safety of our communities and with that comes great responsibility,” said Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr.
