SUFFOLK SHERIFF RELEASES UPDATED HISTORY BOOK COMMEMORATING AMERICA'S 250TH ANNIVERSARY

Sheriffs of Suffolk County chronicles more than three centuries of the Sheriff's Office's history

(SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY) Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr. announced the release of a revised edition of Sheriffs of Suffolk County, a book chronicling the rich history of the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office. The original publication has also been digitized, allowing residents to access it online for the first time. The project was completed as part of the Sheriff's Office's commemoration of America's 250th anniversary.

"The Suffolk County Sheriff's Office is proud to celebrate the Country’s 250th anniversary with this updated edition of Sheriffs of Suffolk County," said Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr. "Our office predates the founding of America and has played an important role in the history of Suffolk County for more than 340 years. We are proud to preserve that legacy and make it accessible to the public through this updated volume."

Originally published in 1989 under Sheriff Eugene T. Dooley, Sheriffs of Suffolk County was printed and distributed to libraries throughout Suffolk County. The new project updates the book with nearly four decades of additional history while preserving the original publication through digitization, making it available to residents online.

Established in 1683, the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office is older than the United States itself. The book highlights significant moments in the Office's history and includes profiles of each of the 67 sheriffs who have served Suffolk County over the past three centuries. The revised edition adds profiles of the five sheriffs who have served since the original publication, along with major milestones and accomplishments from the past four decades.
