(RIVERHEAD, NY) Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr. is proud to announce the opening of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office History Exhibit at Riverhead Town Hall, located at 4W 2nd Street in Riverhead. This exhibit showcases a curated collection of Sheriff’s Office artifacts, historic photographs, uniform items, and a timeline that highlights the evolution of the agency and its role in serving the County. The Sheriff’s Office is the oldest law enforcement agency in Suffolk County, tracing its roots back to 1683.

"As one of the oldest law enforcement agencies in the Nation, we are proud to celebrate our long and rich history," said Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr. "We thank the Town of Riverhead for hosting our first showcase and look forward to more exhibits and events with communities across the county."

Supervisor Jerry Halpin said, “It’s an honor and a privilege for the Town of Riverhead to house the first historical showcase of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office. I invite the greater Riverhead community to come and explore the legacy of the Sheriff’s Office as told through the artifacts and stories being exhibited.”

Residents visiting the exhibit can explore the history of the Sheriff’s Office, learn about landmark moments, and gain a deeper understanding of the Sheriff’s Office and the dedication of those who have served over the years. The exhibit will be open now until June 9, 2026 on Mondays through Fridays, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Riverhead Town Hall (closed on holidays).

The exhibit is part of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office participation in the Suffolk 250 commemoration, a countywide event celebrating 250 years since the United States Declaration of Independence. The Sheriff’s Office plans to continue holding exhibits across Suffolk County and host special events.
