SUFFOLK SHERIFF HOSTS INTERNSHIP GRADUATION

Fall Interns graduating from 16-week program that gave inside look into Corrections, Deputy Sheriff Career Paths

(YAPHANK, NY) On Wednesday, December 17 Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr. honored the latest round of Sheriff’s Office interns at a graduation ceremony at the Yaphank Correctional Facility. This fall, 6 interns participated in the coveted 16-week program, designed to give college-aged students hands-on experience of the different units and career paths in the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office. Participants toured the Correctional Facilities, Warrant Squad, Domestic Violence Bureau and Marine Bureau, while learning firsthand from officers about their daily experiences. They also had the opportunity to participate in mock trainings, visit the Suffolk Crime Lab and take a ride along with a Deputy Sheriff to gain knowledge of patrol procedures and enforcement of traffic laws. These experiences allow young adults to work alongside officers in each area to give them a unique experience to help them to make informed choices about a career in law enforcement.

The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office hosts three sessions of the internship a year --winter, spring and summer.  For more information on the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office and the interns program, please visit www.SuffolkSheriff.com or reach out at SheriffPIO@SuffolkCountyny.gov.
