SUFFOLK SHERIFF’S OFFICE HELD LAW ENFORCEMENT WELLNESS CONFERENCE

*****

(HAUPPAUGE) On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office hosted its Second Annual Law Enforcement Wellness Conference at the Hyatt Regency Long Island, drawing more than 350 law enforcement officers, first responders, and public safety professionals from across the region.

The day-long conference featured nationally recognized speakers and wellness resources designed to address the unique mental, physical, and emotional challenges faced by those in public safety professions.

The day’s first main speaker was former Major League Baseball pitcher Dwight “Doc” Gooden who captivated the audience with his personal story of overcoming adversity and rebuilding his life. Other presentations focused on topics including suicide prevention, peer support, nutrition, resilience, and sleep hygiene.

“This conference is part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring that the people who protect our communities are also protecting their own well-being,” said Suffolk County Sheriff Dr. Errol D. Toulon, Jr. “By creating a space where officers and first responders can learn new tools for managing stressors, we’re building a stronger, healthier law enforcement community.”

Full list of speakers included: highlighting the growing need for comprehensive wellness strategies within the profession.

The event was organized by the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office Wellness Unit, one of the first full-time wellness programs within a law enforcement agency on Long Island. Since its launch in late 2022, the Wellness Unit has provided support more than 4,500 times, trained over 40 peer support team members, and launched a custom wellness app that offers immediate access to mental health resources.
