  • Captain Christopher Barry

    Captain Christopher Barry D/S Captain Christopher Barry is a 24-year veteran of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office. He began his career as a uniformed Deputy Sheriff working in the Headquarters Bureau and the Enforcement Bureau. In 2010, Chris was promoted to Sergeant where he gained experience in every uniformed command within the police division. In 2019, Chris was promoted to the rank of Investigator Lieutenant and was assigned as the Commanding Officer of the Internal Affairs Bureau. In his new assignment, Chris was tasked with overseeing the development of the newly formed Quality Assurance and Integrity Unit. With the goal of setting a desired standard of excellence in public service, the new unit objective was to promote the professionalism and integrity that is necessary to earn and maintain public confidence in the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office. In 2022, Chris successfully merged the 2 units into what is now the Office of Professional Standards. Early in 2023, Chris was promoted to Captain and is currently assigned as the commanding officer of the Enforcement Bureau. As a supervisor, Chris recognized a need for subordinate development and has initiated efforts to bolster transformational leadership practices within the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office. Chris has become a student of leadership and has adopted a personal mission to develop future leaders within the Suffolk County Sheriff’s office. Chris has earned an Associate in Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration with highest distinction. He has received certifications from the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association in Supervisory and Command Leadership and is currently pursuing certification from the Executive Leadership Institute. Throughout his career, Chris has earned numerous training certifications from DCJS, DHS and FEMA, in multiple law enforcement and investigative disciplines including basic and advanced Criminal Investigations, Emergency Management, Critical Infrastructure Protection, Dignitary Protection, Hazardous Materials Operations and Response, WMD Operations and Response to name a few. Captain Barry is a proud graduate of the 282nd session of the FBI National Academy.

    Elizabeth Rae Elizabeth J. Rae was hired in 2020 as the Confidential Assistant to the Sheriff. As the Sheriff’s Assistant, Elizabeth is responsible for providing confidential administrative support to the Sheriff. These responsibilities include performing administrative support, responding to queries, scheduling meetings, and arranging logistical details for the Sheriff as well as his Executive staff. Prior to working at the Sheriff’s Office, Elizabeth owned and operated her own business. She was responsible for Purchasing/Sales, Negotiating with Vendors, Accounts Receivable, Inventory Control, Payroll, Scheduling, and Staff Supervision. Elizabeth received her Master of Science in School Counseling from LIU Post and her Bachelor of Arts in Human Relations from St. Joseph’s College.

  • Undersheriff Kevin T. Catalina

    Undersheriff Kevin T. Catalina Kevin T. Catalina is an Undersheriff at the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office in New York where he is responsible for all intelligence operations, Deputy Sheriff commands, and the Training Academy. Undersheriff Catalina is well-known for his expertise in anti-gang violence strategies, gang suppression and counter-terrorism operations and has lectured internationally on terrorism and site-security subject matter. Prior to joining the Administration of Sheriff Errol Toulon in August 2018, Catalina served as Deputy Chief and Commanding Officer of the New York City Police Department’s (NYPD) Intelligence Bureau, Operational and Analytical Section. Throughout his 26-year career at the NYPD, Kevin Catalina held a range of positions related to counterterrorist operations and investigations, logistical planning and site security. As the Commanding Officer of the NYPD Gang Division from 2014-2016, he developed and implemented all gang investigative and suppression strategies utilized throughout the City of New York. He is recognized as a subject-matter expert in gang violence and crime reduction strategies, and pioneered an initiative in the South Bronx that resulted in a 40% reduction in shooting incidents. He received a Bachelor of Arts in History from SUNY Oneonta and a Certificate in Police Management from Columbia University’s Police Management Institute.

    Vicki DiStefano Vicki DiStefano is the Public Information Officer for the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office acting as the lead spokesperson and media liaison for the Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr. Vicki has worked in public relations and government for over a decade and has experience in working for both local municipalities and County-wide offices. Most recently, Vicki served as Senior Communications Advisor for former Nassau County Executive Laura Curran where she managed hundreds of press conferences and initiatives to highlight County correspondence, policy items and events. During her time at Nassau County she was the lead press officer for Nassau’s COVID-19 and emergency communications, including managing daily COVID-19 briefings for the County Executive, promoting public health initiatives, publicizing County economic relief programs and managing vaccine roll-out campaigns. Prior to working for Nassau County, Vicki was the Press and Film Liaison for the Town of North Hempstead. In addition to the daily public and media relations aspects of her position, she served as a conduit between major film productions and the Town to encourage filming and economic development. Before specializing in government, she began her career in the private sector, serving as the Public Relations and Marketing Manager for a financial law firm. Vicki received her Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Public Relations and Women’s Studies from SUNY New Paltz.

  • Deputy Warden Scott Walsh

    Deputy Warden Scott Walsh Deputy Warden Scott W. Walsh joined the Sheriff’s Office in 2006. Upon graduating the Corrections Academy he spent the beginning part of his career working in various housing units at the Riverhead Facility. In 2011 Scott took a military leave of absence in order to serve in Afghanistan in Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon his return he eventually worked his way into other posts including the Control Room and also joined the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team (SERT) in 2013. In 2015 Scott was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and remained at the Riverhead facility supervising housing units. He also acted in a supervisory role with SERT and co-led a small group of SERT Officers for the first time to the West Virginia Mock Riot Skills Competition. In 2017, Scott was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and transferred to the Yaphank Facility as a Duty Lt. As a Lieutenant Scott oversaw and managed the daily operations of a crew of Officers and Sergeants and worked in both the Yaphank and Riverhead Facilities. Upon becoming a Lieutenant he also became the Training Officer for the SERT team. His responsibilities included monthly training plans, induction training and outside training proposals. In 2018 Scott became the Commanding Officer of the Jail Visiting Unit. His duties included overseeing the Visiting Units in both facilities which accounted for hundreds of civilian visitors each week. During this time he also took on additional duties with the Sheriff’s Crisis Intervention Team and Sheriff’s Mentorship Program. In 2021, Scott became the Commanding Officer of the Academy Bureau where he currently remains. He started 2022 with a promotion to Captain and in September 2022, promoted to Deputy Warden. Also in 2022, the Sheriff's Office Wellness Unit was created and placed under the command of Deputy Warden Walsh. He holds a Master of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from John Jay College. He has retired from the military with 20 years of service in the Army and Air National Guard as a Military Police Officer and Military Police Investigator. Deputy Warden Walsh is a certified hostage negotiator and NYSAA certified Jail Assessor.

  • Deputy Warden Vincenzo Barone

    Deputy Warden Vincenzo Barone Deputy Warden Vincenzo Barone has served with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office for more than 30 years. After graduating the Sheriff’s Academy in 1989 as the class Valedictorian, he started work as a Correction Officer at the Riverhead Correctional Facility. In 2005, he was promoted to Sergeant. His first assignment as Sergeant was at 1st District court where he oversaw prisoner intake. This included, but was not limited to, working closely with numerous outside law enforcement agencies and preparing documents for judges. While a sergeant, Deputy Warden Barone also worked various assignments at both the Yaphank and Riverhead Correctional facilities until he was promoted to Lieutenant in 2010. As Lieutenant, Deputy Warden Barone was assigned to manage a crew of more than 60 correction officers, including two sergeants, at the Yaphank Correctional facility. In 2013, he was promoted to Captain and oversaw the opening of the new, nearly 400,000 square foot addition to the Yaphank Correctional Facility. During his time as Captain, he was also responsible for the Operations Unit, inmate programming, and lastly, before being promoted to Deputy Warden in 2019, was the Administrative Captain for the Yaphank facility. As Deputy Warden, he is Commanding Officer of the 976 bed Yaphank Correctional Facility where he oversees over 330 correction officers, 4 Captains, 10 Lieutenants, and 30 Sergeants. Additionally, he is in charge of all inmate programming for the Sheriff’s Office, including the Sheriff’s Transition and Reentry Team (S.T.A.R.T.) which operates a resource center on the grounds of the Yaphank facility. Deputy Warden Barone heads the Sheriff’s Reentry Task force as well as the Veterans Reentry Task force. He also represents the Sheriff’s Office as a team member of the Suffolk County Mayor’s Challenge to Prevent Suicide among service members, Veterans, and their families, and as a member of the LIREDC Workforce and Education Work Group regarding workforce solutions for justice involved individuals.

  • Investigator Captain Christopher Guercio

    Investigator Captain Christopher Guercio Deputy Sheriff Captain Christopher Guercio is the Commanding Officer of the Sheriff’s Office Enforcement Bureau which provides the services of civil enforcement and patrol of Gabreski Airport. In addition, Captain Guercio is the Commanding Officer of the Grants Bureau, the Quartermaster Bureau, and numerous community and department programs. Captain Guercio is a 26 year member of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office. He joined the Sheriff’s Office in June of 1994. Captain Guercio began his career assigned to First District Court and transferred to the Civil Enforcement Bureau in June of 2000. In 2004 he was promoted to Sergeant, supervising both First District Court and the Civil Enforcement Bureau. In June of 2014 he was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to the Enforcement Bureau where he was appointed Commanding Officer. Captain Guercio received his latest promotion in September of 2018, remaining Commanding Officer of the Enforcement Bureau along with the responsibilities of the additional commands. Captain Guercio received his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Dowling College.

  • Chief Deputy Sheriff Christopher Brockmeyer

    Chief Deputy Sheriff Christopher Brockmeyer Chief Deputy Sheriff Christopher Brockmeyer has over 20 years in law enforcement and began his career at the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office in 1998. Christopher graduated the Suffolk County Police Academy in June 1999 where he received his police officer certification from the Municipal Police Training Council. He followed in his father’s footsteps, a 37-year NYPD Detective 1st Grade, becoming the second police officer in his family line. As a Deputy Sheriff, Christopher worked in various bureaus at the Sheriff’s Office including the 1st District Court Bureau, Headquarters Bureau, and the Domestic Violence Bureau. Following his promotion to Sergeant in 2006, he was assigned to the Headquarters Bureau where he supervised Deputy Sheriff Personnel in prisoner transportation, court detention, highway patrol, and special events. He was appointed as an Investigator Sergeant in 2010 and served as both the Executive and Commanding Officer of the Enforcement Bureau’s Highway Enforcement Section which handled crash and fatal investigations, emergency response and enforcement related activities. Early on in his career, Chief Brockmeyer recognized the need for technology enhancements and began to promote a data-driven approach for managing the operations of the Police Division. He recommended the creation of the Police Technology Management Section which he later oversaw as the Commanding Officer. Christopher procured and managed technology related software, equipment, and initiatives that included the Records Management System, Computer Aided Dispatch, In-Car and Body Camera systems, License Plate Reader technology, security and access control and others. This technology enabled the Police Division to more efficiently manage its operations and partner with other local, state and federal agencies to share information and coordinate their efforts on investigations and crime patterns. In 2014, Christopher was promoted to Investigator Lieutenant and was assigned to the Office of the Chief Deputy Sheriff where he assisted in the management and operational responsibilities of over 250 Deputy Sheriffs assigned to the Police Division. In 2015, Christopher was promoted to Captain and remained in this assignment serving as the Executive Officer of the Police Division. He commanded the Criminal Investigations Bureau which handles complex criminal investigations and evidence/property management for the Sheriff’s Office. In addition, he oversaw the Pistol License Bureau and numerous Special Operations units including the Tactical Sheriff’s Response Team, Tactical Rifle and Containment Team, Air Support Unit, Bike Patrol, Marine Section, Stop-DWI Team, and the Honor Guard. In response to active shooter events locally and around the country, Chief Brockmeyer developed and supervised the Deputy Sheriff Patrol Rifle Program. He also managed the Deputy Sheriff Field Training Program which is the initial field training Deputy Sheriffs receive upon graduation from the Suffolk County Police Academy. Chief Brockmeyer has received extensive training over the years to include Certified Breath Technician, General Topics Instructor, Field Training Officer, Field Intelligence Officer, CDL licensed operator, Basic SWAT and Command Leadership, and numerous training courses in Homeland Security and Incident Command Management. He is an Instrument-Rated Pilot for the Air Support Unit and Remote Pilot for the Sheriff’s Office Unmanned Aerial Vehicle program. Christopher’s desire to serve and protect the community is what inspired him to become a police officer. That commitment is ongoing as he looks for ways to improve community interaction and the response capabilities of Deputy Sheriffs. Moving forward he hopes to fulfill this goal by emphasizing in-service training, ensuring Deputy Sheriffs stay up to date on current trends and best practices in their profession.

  • Captain Salvatore Petrone

    Captain Salvatore Petrone Deputy Sheriff Captain Salvatore Petrone is the Commanding Officer of the Sheriff’s Office First District Court Bureau. The Bureau’s main responsibilities are the care, custody and transportation of Inmates to and from Correctional Facilities for court appearances as well as pre-arraignment prisoners awaiting arraignment on new charges. Captain Petrone also oversees the Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol Bureau, Traffic and Parking Violations Bureau and is a representative on Traffic Safety Committee. In addition, Captain Petrone is the Language Access Coordinator for the Sheriff’s Office. The language access program offers services such as interpretation, translation and sign language free of charge to assist Inmates and the General Public. Captain Petrone is a 28 year member of the Sheriff’s Office, joining the ranks as a Deputy Sheriff in June of 1994. He was initially assigned to the First District Court Bureau and then worked in Headquarters Bureau and the Domestic Violence Bureau. In 2002 he was promoted to Sergeant and supervised in District Court, Headquarters, Domestic Violence Bureau and was named the Commanding Officer of the Pistol License Bureau. Petrone was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2016 and was assigned as the Commanding Officer of the Grants Bureau as well as the Executive Officer of Headquarters Bureau and Warrant Squad Bureau. He received promotion to the rank of Captain in February of 2022. Captain Petrone earned an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Accounting and Business Administration from Suffolk County Community College. He also holds various professional certificates in areas such as Basic K-9 Management, Drug Identification, Radiation Detection, and is a certified Investigator through the New York State Department of Criminal Justice. In 2018 Captain Petrone was named the Sheriff’s Office “Deputy Sheriff of the Year” and received “Officer of the Year” honors and “The Gerald Buckley Award” from the Southampton Kiwanis Club.

  • Deputy Warden Kevin Kelley

    Deputy Warden Kevin Kelley Deputy Warden Kelley began with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office in 2003 and has served in various supervisory roles throughout his career. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2010 and was assigned to the Riverhead Facility. He was later assigned to the Records Section, followed by the Administrative Bureau where his duties included generating the Operating Budget for the Correction Division and asset and resource management. He oversaw daily financial and purchasing trends within the Correction Division and was involved in various special projects. Promoted to Lieutenant in 2019, he commanded a crew in the Riverhead facility. In 2021 he was assigned to the Research and Development Bureau within the Operations Division. There he oversaw the generation of the Sheriff’s Office Operating and Capital Budgets, tracking trends, and patterns in staffing and resource allocation. In 2022 He was promoted to Captain and designated Executive Officer to the Chief of Staff. Deputy Warden Kelley remains Executive Officer to the Chief of Staff, responsible for all commands within the Operations Division. These duties largely focus on budgeting, asset management, tracking and reporting on vital statistics, and increasing agency efficiency. In addition to his regular duties, Deputy Warden Kelley is a New York State Sheriff’s Association Accreditation Assessor.

  • Owen Durney

    Owen Durney Owen Durney serves as the Assistant Intergovernmental Relations Coordinator for the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office where he is the liaison between the Sheriff’s Office and elected officials and agencies on the federal, state and local levels of government. Prior to joining the Sheriff’s Office in February 2023, Owen worked in the Suffolk County Department of Health Services for 20 years where he performed various healthcare administration functions focused on strategic planning, community program service delivery, budgeting and finance. In 2022 Owen was the Continuous Improvement Analyst for the Health Department where he worked on the coordination, execution and implementation of the County Executive’s Office Continuous Improvement Program. Owen earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the State University of New York at Albany. In 2008 he earned his master’s degree in Public Administration from Long Island University, C.W. Post (currently LIU Post) where he has been an Adjunct Professor of Health Care and Public Administration since 2011.
