At approximately 12:30 PM Shemari McKenzie, 21, of Laurelton, attempted to enter Splish Splash waterpark in Riverhead with what appeared to be a handgun. When confronted by park security he fled with the handgun in a backpack. Park security called 911 and officers responded from the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, Riverhead Police K9, New York State Police, and Suffolk County Police. Mr. McKenzie surrendered to officers at approximately 2:00 PM and was arrested for Obstructing Governmental Administration, a class A misdemeanor. The handgun was found to be a BB gun.
