Arrest: Driving While Intoxicated
12/13/19: At approximately 1:08 AM, Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Daniel Lugo, 43, of East Northport, NY, for driving while intoxicated (DWI). Mr. Lugo was travelling southbound on Robert Moses Causeway where he crashed his vehicle into the wooded shoulder near exit RM2W. He was stuck behind the wheel of the vehicle and had to be extracted by the West Islip Fire Department. Upon interviewing the defendant, it was observed the defendant's speech was slurred, his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, he had to be helped on to a stretcher by the Fire Department, and the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was on his breath. The defendant demonstrated clues while performing the standardized field sobriety test that he able to perform indicating he was intoxicated. Mr. Lugo was arrested and transported to Good Samaritan Hospital. A blood test conducted by the Medical Examiner’s Office is pending analysis at the Suffolk County Crime Laboratory. Mr. Lugo was charged with driving while intoxicated.
