Arrest: Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs (DWAI)
12/27/19: At approximately 7:01 AM, Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Donovan Morant, 19, of Shoreham, NY, for driving while ability impaired by drugs (DWAI) while traveling westbound on the Route 25A Bypass in Rocky Point, NY. Mr. Morant was stopped for crossing completely over the double yellow lines into the opposing lane of travel toward oncoming traffic. The Deputy, traveling eastbound, was forced to take evasive action to avoid a head on collision with Mr. Morant. The defendant demonstrated clues while performing standardized field sobriety tests indicating he was impaired. Mr. Morant was arrested and transported to the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office Station 17 for processing. He was asked to submit to a chemical blood test and consented. Mr. Morant was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, unlawful possession of marijuana, and vehicle and traffic law violations.
