Arrest: Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs (DWAI)/ Refusing a Chemical Breath/Blood Test
11/27/19: At approximately 1:40 AM, Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Joanne Geraci, 36, of Merrick, NY, for driving while ability impaired by drugs(DWAI) on the Long Island Expressway in Islip. Ms. Geraci was pulled over for driving 88 MPH when the posted speed limit was 55 MPH. She also failed to safely make a lane change nearly causing a collision with a Deputy Sheriff’s vehicle. The defendant demonstrated clues while performing standardized field sobriety tests indicating she was impaired and was unsafe to operate a motor vehicle safely. She also possessed a Ziploc baggie with marijuana. Ms. Geraci was arrested and transported to the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office Enforcement Bureau in Yaphank, NY. She was asked to submit to a chemical breath and blood test and refused. In addition to driving while ability impaired, Ms. Geraci was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.
