Arrest: Attempted Criminal Purchase of a Weapon/ Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree
12/30/19: Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Giovanni Distefano, 24, of Shirley, NY, for attempted criminal purchase of a weapon. Mr. Distefano attempted to purchase a rifle on 11/20/19 at Dick’s Sporting Goods, Riverhead, NY, knowing he was prohibited by law from possessing a firearm due to a prior order of protection with a no weapons clause. He was charged with attempted criminal purchase of a weapon and criminal contempt in the second degree.
