Arrest: Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated/ Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle
02/15/20: At approximately 8:51 PM, Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Walter Healy, 49, of Mastic, NY, for aggravated driving while intoxicated (DWI). Mr. Healy was travelling 88 MPH in a posted 55 MPH zone on the Long Island Expressway in Brookhaven, NY. He drove in a reckless manner, followed other vehicles too closely, failed to maintain lane, and failed to stop or slow for the deputy sheriff unit with active emergency lights and sirens for eight minutes. The defendant demonstrated clues while performing standardized field sobriety tests indicating he was intoxicated. Mr. Healy was arrested and transported to Sheriff’s Office Station 1 where he submitted to a chemical breath test resulting in a .21 BAC. He was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree, and various vehicle and traffic laws.
