Choose Your Path 1-Year Celebration

On Thursday, December 12th, 2019, Sheriff Errol D. Toulon Jr. celebrated the success of the Choose Your Path Program for incarcerated young adults at the Riverhead Jail.  The program reduced recidivism and is setting young people on a productive pathway upon release. The Choose Your Path Program was initiated by Sheriff Toulon to meet the needs of the younger jail population. This innovative approach to incarceration was designed to prepare male inmates, 18-25 years old, for safe re-entry back into the community with skills and a mindset to be successful members of society.

Correction Officer Class CRP19-190 Graduation

On Friday, October 25th, Sheriff Toulon welcomed 13 new Correction Officers into the Sheriff's Office family at graduation,  The ceremony was attended by family and friends of the graduates as well as County Executive Steve Bellone, County Clerk Judith Pascale, Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory, Nassau County Sheriff Vera Fludd, and members of the Suffolk County Legislature.

Correction Officer Recruit Class Training Day

On Friday, October 18, 2019, Correction Officer Recruit Class CR19160-190 invited our film crew to follow them around for the day to see a day in the life of an academy class. Check out some photos from the day.

K9 Memorial Service

On October 17th, Suffolk County Sheriff Dr. Errol D. Toulon, Jr. held a K9 Memorial unveiling at the Riverhead Correctional Facility.  Members from other agencies including the Suffolk County Police Department, Riverhead Town Police, MTA Police Department, DEC, and the Suffolk County SPCA were in attendance.

Deconstructing the Prison Pipeline Forum

On Friday, May 10th, Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon Jr., and Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre hosted a public hearing event at Touro Law Center about the factors feeding the prison pipeline. It featured expert testimony, personal impact stories from recently released individuals, and public participation.

Rohan Murphy Visits Riverhead Facility

On November 14th, Sheriff Toulon welcomed Rohan Murphy to the Riverhead Correctional Facility.  Rohan is a nationally known motivational speaker, athlete, and wrestler from East Islip who lost his legs at birth. Rohan spoke with the young adults about intrinsic motivation and overcoming adversity.

Youth Enlightenment Seminar "YES" Tours 

On Friday, November 16, Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr. open the doors of the Yaphank Correctional Facility for the first time for weekly student tours.

On Friday, April 12, 2019, Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon Jr., welcomed our newest class of Correction Officers at their graduation held at Suffolk Community College.  62 Correction Officers joined the Suffolk County Correction Officer team.  See their journey below!

Memorial Service 2019 

On Thursday, May 23, 2019, the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Suffolk County Deputy Sheriffs P.B.A. and the Suffolk County Correction Officers Association, hosted their Annual Memorial Service to honor Suffolk County’s Corrections Officers and Deputy Sheriffs who have died in service since 1887.

Sandy Hook Promise Initiative

In August, 2018, Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon announced his partnership with the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation to implementing the "Say Something" program in Suffolk County schools.  The Say Something program teaches youth in grades 6-12 how to recognize the signs and symptoms of a peer in distress and to say something to a trusted adult.  In the 2018-2019 school year, the Sheriff's Office has trained over 9,000 students, teachers, and parents.
